To Our Valued Patrons,
On Thursday, Governor Wolf announced additional mitigation orders that he feels will help stop the spread of COVID-19. Despite rumors that have been circulating throughout the week, these newest directives do not impact in-person library services. The Office of Commonwealth Libraries, a division of the Department of Education, maintains that the decision to open or close a library should remain at the local level.
Western Allegheny Community Library remains committed to providing our community with access to educational, vocational, and recreational services that are essential for many of our residents, particularly during these stressful times. As long as we are able to do so safely, we plan to remain open to the public. This includes access to computers, browsing the collection, and areas for quiet study.
We do take the health and safety of staff, patrons, and the community very seriously. As a result, we ask that you please be patient with us as we are working diligently to comply with all masking, sanitizing, social distancing, and quarantining guidelines. In addition, we’re trying to telework whenever possible, so with fewer staff in the building, you may notice a longer wait than usual.
For persons who are uncomfortable or unable to enter the building, we will continue to offer curbside pickup. Simply request an item through our online catalog, our WACL Mobile app, or by calling our front desk at 724-695-8150 x1. Curbside services can also include scanning, faxing, and copying (by appointment only), although you may continue to enter the building for these services.
On behalf of the entire library staff, I want to take a moment to offer you my sincerest thanks! During these challenging times you’ve remained patient with us as we continue to adjust our services. Your kindness, notes of appreciation, home baked goodies, and unwavering financial support mean the world to us all. THANK YOU for valuing our staff and the good work we do for our community!
Wishing you a healthy and peaceful holiday season,
Amy McDonald
